DELEGATES NEEDED FOR MONTHLY HMI MEETINGS!
HMI has a lot going on these days as we work to carry the message!
There's
conventions, retreats, workshops, sending delegates to Regional
and
National meetings, Steps - our newsletter, the phone message
center,
and even this web site.
And we need YOUR help in getting all this work done! A great
way to start
is by volunteering to be the delegate from your group to the monthly
HMI meeting.
There are several benefits to increased participation in the HMI
meetings -
fresh ideas, the ability to better coordinate our efforts with all
the groups
and membership, the opportunity for the delegates to become more
involved in the Twelfth Step Service, and the opportunity for the
delegates
to carry the news back to the groups - and encourage the participation
of all our members.
REMEMBER - SERVICE IS SLIMMING
MEETING ATTENDANCE:
A TWELFTH STEP SERVICE!
It's a pretty sure bet that most of us OA'ers recognize that attending
meetings
is a critically important tool in our recovery.
But, have we also considered what an
important Twelfth Step Service attending
meetings can be?
The OA Fellowship, including HMI, continues to lose more meetings
than we gain, almost
always due to low attendance. Additionally, many meetings
are barely surviving with only
a small handful of members attending. There is even an increasing
number of meetings
where a member shows up for a meeting only to find that they are
the only one there!
This is unfortunate in many ways. It means there are less meetings
to choose from
when a member really needs to make a meeting. And it means
that the meetings are
perhaps not as effective as they might be if only a very few folks
show up.
Perhaps most importantly, think what this means to a newcomer.
Showing up for your
first meeting only to find that there are only a couple of other
folks there could be a
very unsettling proposition. It also doesn't say much for
the amount of support a
newcomer might expect of find in the OA Fellowship.
While there are a number of popular and reasonably well attended
OA meetings that
many of us attend, perhaps we should all consider challenging ourselves
to attend an
additional smaller meeting whenever possible. Not only would
we be contributing to
our own recovery by attending an additional meeting, we would be
helping to carry
the message by ensuring the continued existence of a group that
might be very
important to someone else's recovery.
So, if you've been considering just what type of Twelfth Step Service
you could contribute
to the Fellowship, as well as your own recovery, think about attending
an additional meeting.
The Twelfth Step
Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these
steps, we tried to carry this
message to compulsive overeaters and to practice these
principles in all our affairs.
