Secretary’s Report

Meeting was called to order at 10:00 AM by Helen, followed by welcoming, introductions and the reading of the HMI Mission Statement.

  1. Tradition: Jan presented Tradition Four. Sherri volunteered to lead next month’s discussion on Tradition Five.
  2. Minutes of March Meeting: Not available as Nancy had car trouble. Will be presented at May meeting
  3. Treasurer’s Report: Lora passed out report. See attached
  4. Old Business: None
  5. Delegate’s Report: Carl will attend WSBO next month. Margot reported on the Region 3 Assembly held in Austin in February. The Dignity of Choice food plans are to be brought to WSBC next month. WSBC has hired Global Nutritional corp. to assist. Text and suggested food plans will be voted on, The Assembly discussed to concept of having a strong Intergroup sponsor weaker Intergroup. Rebecca M. pointed out to the Assembly that such a relationship exists between the Galveston and Houston Intergroups. Others expressed interest in our detailing how this is being done so that they may benefit from out example. Rebecca also made a presentation for the fall Houston/Galveston Convention that will be tied to the Region 3 Assembly. Our conference brochures with registration form were distributed. Rebecca and Margot met with the Vice-Chair of the Steering Committee to further discuss the Assemble/convention. Margot and Rebecca stressed to the Assemble that new delegates need to be aware of the orientation breakfast session prior to going so they can make their travel plans appropriately.

  7. Special Events/Workshops: Jan has planned a Speaker’s Meeting for May 5th at the Oasis Club

    Spring Retreat 2002: Space has been reserved at Camp Allan for May 17th-19th. The Camp is a resort-like facility. The deposit was $1400. Present commitment is for ten people. Fee would include all meals. We would need to charge $75 per night for double occupancy and 90 per night for single occupants. A committee needs to be appointed to work out details.

    Convention: Carl and Lora reported almost all positions for chair are filled. Still need chair-people for Ways and Means, Huggers, Entertainment and door prizes. Next meeting is at the Oasis Club on April 28th at 10 AM. Brochure is out, thanks to Dee. Committee let last month and plans to start selling Footprints in the Sand, Galvaston 2001 Tee shirts so we can talk up the convention at our meetings.

    Newsletter-Sherri: Newsletter will be out this week. Sherri would like local members to submit articles.

    Meeting Lists: Helen: List was updated for March/April. OA phone list was also updated and new ones are available.

    Bylaws Committee: Helen and Alan will be working on reformatting our by-laws per Region 3 format. One example is we do not currently have our committees listed in our bylaws.

    HMI Web Site: Alan reported we have had 13,000 hits in the last 1½ years. We average 10-60 per day.

  8. New Business: Helen suggested we enlist a person who could decide topics, dates and get speakers for workshops. Sherri volunteered to do this.

  11. Announcements: Next meeting: May 12, 2001 at 10:00 AM. Carl will be at WSBC during that time.
Elections will be held at June meeting. We need to elect new chairman and treasurer. Helen will be out of town. She is willing to serve as treasurer. Carl will chair June meeting.
